Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam (IRCTC CODE : SSPN) Railway Station is located approximately 8 km from the Ashram. Direct trains connect Prasanthi Nilayam with major cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, New Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah and several other destinations on a daily basis.
Dharmavaram Junction (IRCTC CODE : DMM), approximately 40 km from the Ashram, is a major railway junction with extensive connectivity to various parts of the country. Visitors may also choose to travel via Dharmavaram and proceed to Prasanthi Nilayam by road.
Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthi Nilayam Station (SSPN)
The station was built at Bhagawan's request and sits at the foot of the granite boulder hills visible from the ashram. The building is clean, orderly and well-maintained. The atmosphere on the platform is notably calm; many arriving passengers are devotees. The exit leads directly to a stand of auto-rickshaws.
Daily direct trains from Bengaluru (KSR Bengaluru City), Hyderabad (Secunderabad), Visakhapatnam, New Delhi, Mumbai, Howrah and several other cities stop here. Book early for festival seasons, especially November (Bhagawan's birthday on the 23rd), Christmas and Shivaratri.
Dharmavaram Junction (DMM), 40 km from the ashram
Dharmavaram is a busy junction on the Bengaluru–Guntakal main line with even wider connectivity than SSPN, and many more services pass through it each day. If no direct train to SSPN suits your dates — or you are coming from a city such as Chennai — travel to Dharmavaram and cover the last 40 km by road. Taxis to the ashram from here cost Rs. 600–800 and take about an hour. APSRTC buses connect Dharmavaram to Puttaparthi throughout the day. Check departures at IndiaRailInfo (Dharmavaram).
From the station to the ashram
- Auto-rickshaw (most common): autos wait at the SSPN exit. Negotiate before boarding or ask for the meter. Expect Rs. 150–250 for the 8 km ride; Rs. 600–900 from Dharmavaram. The ride takes 15–20 minutes from SSPN.
- Local bus: APSRTC buses run between the station and Puttaparthi town through the day. Check at the station exit for the next departure.
- Pre-booked cab: Ola operates from Puttaparthi. Book ahead if you have family or lots of luggage.
Night trains: arriving early
Several trains from Bengaluru and Secunderabad arrive at SSPN before dawn. The ashram gates open at 4 AM and the Accommodation Office (Indian citizens counter at Ganesh Gate) opens from 5:00 AM for common halls and 6:15 AM for room allotments, so an early arrival gives you first access at the counter. There is a waiting area at the station. Carry warm clothing between October and February; mornings in the valley can be cool.
